In the Community | Long Time Nomiya Partner Callaghan Park Nearing Fundraising Goal

If you’re a friend of Nomiya, you’ll know we pride ourselves on being involved members of our communities. Our Ellerslie location receives a lot of family love, and we have been involved in giving a little bit of that love back when it comes to the Callaghan Park fundraiser.

Whether you’re new to our crew or you recall our sushi platter fundraiser from last winter, now is the time for us to share an update on the Park’s progress, and to let you know what’s next in our partnership.

Background on Callaghan Park

The community of Callaghan has seen population explode over the past five years, leaving this southwest Edmonton neighbourhood in need of infrastructure to support community living and gathering – and what better to include in this category than playgrounds? Hence, the Callaghan Park project was born.

With 23 percent of Callaghan residents under the age of 15, there is no doubt that playgrounds will be highly utilized and bring residents together to create and strengthen a growing and vibrant community. With the goal of raising $650,000 by the fall of 2017, the Callaghan community has been actively fundraising for the past two years.

You can visit the community’s website for more information on the project’s progress and concept plan.

The Nomiya Callaghan Partnership

Being members of the Ellerslie community, with Nomiya Ellerslie located mere minutes away from the Callaghan community, we feel strongly about the mutual values we share with the Callaghan Park initiative and its vision to create a family-friendly community gathering place.

As ongoing supporters, we have previously incorporated fundraising into our restaurant operations through donating proceeds from sushi platters to the project last winter, but now we’re ready to get out of the kitchen and take to the green.

Yes, you guessed it – we are very excited to announce that Nomiya will be sponsoring a hole at the Callaghan Park Golf Tournament this weekend!

What to Expect at the Callaghan Golf Tournament

On Friday, July 28, you’ll find us (and some tasty Japanese treats) at the Red Tail Landing Golf Course. This is Callaghan’s third annual golf tournament; having raised over $30,000 dollars over the past two tournaments, we hope that year three is their biggest success yet!

This year, the Callaghan community is pleased to welcome celebrity Meg Morrison to the tournament. Meg is the host and producer of the Pro-Am Golf Show, as well as a Sports Anchor and Reporter, at CTV Edmonton. Join us, Meg, and many other sponsors for day dedicated to supporting the Callaghan Park project and making our city a better place for all residents!

This Friday, July 28, registration begins at 7:00 a.m. with the tournament kicking off at 8:30 a.m. with a Texas Scramble shotgun. Registration is $175 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, a power cart, a steak dinner, silent auction, and prizes (watch out for the Nomiya donated door prize).

Don’t miss out on your chance to give back to the community! For more information and to register for the Callaghan Park Project Golf Tournament click here.
